Overview
UVIRA is a city in the Sud- Kivu province, Democratic of Congo, located at the extreme north end of Lake Tanganyika. A lake port called Kalundu is located at the Southen end of the town, which provides links by boat to Kalemie (Congo), Kigoma (Tanzania) and Bujumbura, the capital city of Burundi. Uvira is linked by road to Bukavu (Congo) and Bujumbura, Burundi and is 120 km from the city of Bukavu, the capital of Sud- Kivu. The area of Uvira is 3,148 km2, with a population of 396,585.
